Toonwerks: Lord of the rings

The latest Toonwerks short was going to be a Lord of the Rings parody before it was cancelled to focus on rebooting the Wonders of the Universe series. I was given full reign over the art style of the backgrounds for the project which allowed me to focus on developing a more detailed vector style that I hoped would match the gouache backgrounds of late 90's Hanna-Barbera cartoons.

I utilised the eye of Sauron iconography in the banners and furniture of Sauron's private study to reflect the character's giant ego.

This was the last background that I worked on before the animated short was cancelled. It was during the creation of this background that I shifted towards a lineless vector style which used noise texture to give a more painterly look.
